Equipped with an HDMI connection and 720p/1080i upconversion, the RDXS52 is the perfect match for today's and tomorrow's high definition televisions. It records to DVD-RAM and DVD-R discs, as well as its built-in 160GB hard disc drive. High speed dubbing is available from the Hard Disc Drive to DVD-RAM and DVD-R.

The RDXS52 is a multi-format DVD recorder designed to provide the greatest flexibility in recording and playback by supporting DVD-RAM and DVD-R recordable disc formats. DVD-RAM is the most flexible of the recordable DVD formats when it comes to recording, editing and playback. It lets you re-record content approximately 100,000 times. DVD-R is a write-once format perfect for sharing treasured video moments with virtually anyone who has a DVD-Video player.

Or The 160GB Hard Drive
The 160GB hard disc drive (HDD) on the RDXS52 is similar to what is used in a personal computer. It can store recorded broadcast programming and dubbed content. The recorder will allow high-speed dubbing from the HDD to a DVD-RAM (24x max) or DVD-R (32x max) without any deterioration of the digital MPEG-2 signal and provides instant access to recorded programs. So forget about searching for blank videotape when you want to record, simply hit RECORD and let the HDD do all the work.

HDMI (High Definition Multimedia Interface) is the first industry-supported, uncompressed, all-digital audio/video connection. HDMI provides the best interface between a DVD player and compatible products, such as a digital television (DTV). When matched with a compatible TV, this single interconnecting cable combines: Multi-channel audio, uncompressed digital video, intercommunication between devices and simple control Protocols. This single cable connection ensures that all signals remain in their pure digital form and secure by use of High Definition Copy Protection (HDCP) regardless of signal output resolution. HDMI can support uncompressed digital video up to HDTV level resolution. Thus, the RDXS52 makes use of this conduit by up-converting the standard DVD picture resolution to nearly HDTV-quality with output resolutions of 720p or 1080i. This makes the RDXS52 the perfect match for today's digital televisions. And because this conversion is performed in the player, the signal remains free from excessive digital-to-analog conversion artifacts.

Auto Title/Chapter/Thumbnail Creation
Recorded content remains easy to find with the help of a menu that will be automatically created when you record. It displays the date and channel you recorded, along with a thumbnail of your recording by capturing the first video frame of the recording. The date and channel can be changed to any 64-character title and the thumbnails to any image within the recording. Chapters within the recording can also be created by either predetermined intervals, or by the user selecting specific points within the recording. These chapters can also be named and assigned a specific thumbnail from any video frame within the chapter.

ColorStream Pro Component Video Outputs allow the highest quality video signal to be sent from the DVD player to a component video equipped progressive scan TV. When this connection is utilized with today's HD-compatible sets, typical NTSC artifacts (like video noise, dot crawl, and flicker) are virtually eliminated, resulting in a low-noise, highly detailed picture with unequaled color purity. Digital Cinema Progressive Scan (3/2 Pulldown) delivers the smoothest, most film-like images to any progressive scan television, such as an HD-compatible unit, and ensures maximum resolution.

There are composite audio and video inputs, as well as RCA L/R inputs on the front panel of the RDXS52 for easy camcorder dubbing. Additionally, an IEEE1394 Firewire jack is available on the front panel for interfacing compatible digital video camcorders. This connection provides automatic recognition of the device and on-screen menu controls to easily direct the downloading process with the recorder's remote control. It just doesn't get much more convenient than that.

An EASY NAVI Menu provides quick and easy access to key features of the RDXS52, such as Timer Recording or DV Capture. Additionally, the EASY navi displays a "live action window", providing feedback to the user on the current status of the recorder, whether it is recording a program, in the Time Slip mode, or playing back content with DVD-RAM or HDD. The Time Slip/Pause Live TV functions allow you to begin watching a recording that is already in progress. The Time Slip feature lets you "pause" a live recording and then return to it later. During playback of both modes, a bar graph can be displayed on-screen depicting the progress or location of the playback signal with regards to the real time recorded signal.

Other Convenient Features
An IR Blaster for cable and DBS box control is a handy cable that can connect to the back of the recorder and transmit an infrared (IR) signal to change channels on your cable or satellite box. This allows no-hasle recordings from these two sources without the need to make channel selection ahead of time. The RDXS52 also features a 181-channel cable compatible tuner and a 2-month, 32-event timer programming functionality. You may input your own program data, or take advantage of the built-in Gemstar VCR+ technology for simple timer event programming.

With all of the excitement over the recording features of the RDXS32, we almost forgot to mention what you can play in this versatile machine. The list is long: DVD-Video, DVD, CD, CD-R, CD-RW, VCD, DVD-R, DVD-RW, DVD-RAM, WMA and MP3 files burned to CD-R/RW. There's even a JPEG viewer so you can enjoy picture CDs on your television screen. It's almost hard to believe that this little component is capable of so much. So when you're done recording, don't forget to take time out and enjoy watching or listening to some of your favorites.
